Quotes This Week

“It is no exaggeration to say that our new animal cruelty laws would not have been introduced without Minister Bell’s vision, determination and leadership. Throughout a long and often challenging political process, Minister Bell’s commitment to the animals never wavered.”
Craig Daniell, CEO, B.C. SPCA, Prince George Free Press, Jun 13, 2008.

“Fortunately, the Liberal government seems well aware of the [oil and gas] industry's importance and has resisted opposition calls to terminate successful programs, such as the net profit royalty program, which recognizes that development of unconventional resources has higher operating costs and expensive technology, and infrastructure programs that ensure access to these remote regions.”

  • The provincial government will see a zero net increase in regulations through 2012, Minister of Small Business and Revenue, Rick Thorpe announced this week. Since British Columbia’s regulatory reform program was introduced in 2001, 42.6 per cent – or more than 163,000 regulations – have been cut, far exceeding the original goal of cutting red tape by one third over three years.
