Premier Gordon Campbell joined Beverly Thomson and Seamus O'Regan on CTV’s Canada AM to promote British Columbia and the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games while on a trip through Eastern Canada.

CANADA-BC PARTNER TO CREATE JOBS, STIMULATE ECONOMY- 27 infrastructure projects will receive funding across the province

The federal and provincial governments are together investing over $145 million, and when combined with investments from local governments and partners, the total is more than $150 million.

  • This announcement represents a contribution of over $64 million from the Government of Canada through the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, and almost $82 million from the province of British Columbia.
  • Projects that were announced will support improvements to 21 roads and highways, as well as trails, sewers and other facilities throughout the province.

Province Increases New Housing Rebate Threshold

The Province is proposing to increase the threshold for the B.C. HST new housing rebate from $400,000 to $525,000 to ensure that, on average, purchasers of new homes up to $525,000 pay no more tax due to harmonization.

  • Purchasers of new homes would be eligible for a rebate of 71.43 per cent of the provincial portion of the HST paid on a new home, up to a maximum of $26,250. Homes above $525,000 would receive a flat rebate of $26,250. This enhanced rebate represents a 30 per cent increase in the threshold and maximum rebate available.

All British Columbians Now Eligible for H1N1 Vaccine

All British Columbians who need and want to be immunized against the H1N1 flu virus will now be eligible to receive the vaccine.

  • B.C. expects to receive an additional 258,000 doses of vaccine and anticipates receiving approximately 640,000 doses late next week. In total, 1.16 million doses of the vaccine have already been delivered to British Columbia.
  • It is estimated almost one million British Columbians, to date, have been immunized, including a large percentage of health care workers and many people who are considered to be at the highest risk.
