Legislative Select Standing Committees are authorized by the Legislative Assembly to investigate and report on a particular aspect of government operations for the duration of a Legislative session.

Special Committees are assigned on occasion to look closely at single, specific issues. A Special Committee ceases to exist after it has completed its investigation and presented its final report to the House.
