Moe of the Same from the NDP

“… questionable business dealings, the overbearing lobbying of the motor carrier commission on behalf of a friend, the wild-man driving record, the multiple breach of the code of conduct as a lawyer, the long periods of sulking in the government backbench, or his role in sinking the Charlottetown Accord with a single, reckless speech.” – Vaughn Palmer on Moe Sihota, Vancouver Sun, March 14/01

After the election, Carole James promised to present new and positive ideas for British Columbia.

Apparently that includes bringing Moe Sihota back into the fold to, in his words, “to draw on the experience of people who have been there in the past...”

The same Moe Sihota who was twice kicked out of cabinet:

• May 1995: Sihota was removed from cabinet after the Law Society of BC found him guilty of professional misconduct and prohibited him from practicing law for 18 months.

•  Dec 1996: Sihota was removed from cabinet for the second time after allegations of interference with the Motor Carrier Commission. Sihota made several calls and wrote letters to the MCC about a taxi-licence application for his friend, Liberal MP Herb Dhaliwal, who half-owned Airport Limousine Service. Sihota was eventually cleared of the allegations after an investigation by Glen Clark’s Deputy Minister, Doug McArthur.
The same Moe Sihota who supported the NDP’s economic policies: “We're managing the debt of this province better than any other province in the country.” – Moe Sihota, Hansard, July 10/98

The same Moe Sihota who said the NDP’s record in the 1990s was something to be duplicated: “We're proud of our record.” Moe Sihota, Hansard, July 10/98

And the same Moe Sihota who sees Glen Clark as a historical figure: “Premier Clark has taken his place in history.” – Moe Sihota, Hansard, December 14/98

It seems Carole James ideas for the future means a return to the 1990s, a time when British Columbians paid high personal income taxes and businesses were driven out of the province. It seems like the NDP, bereft of ideas, want Moe of the same B.C. had in the 1990s.
